As the festive season approaches, people are busy planning for Deepawali, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year. There is certainly hope and the distinct possibility that the worst of the pandemic and inflation is over and a new era has dawned. One does hope this will be so!
The first article titled “Prognostic significance of baseline plasma C-reactive protein levels in patients with acute coronary syndromes: A retrospective observational study” authored by Rohit Raina and Mayushi Gupta is a retrospective observational study of fifty patients diagnosed with the acute coronary syndrome who had baseline plasma C-reactive protein estimation. The significance of C-reactive protein for prognosis in these patients has been emphasized.
The second original article titled “Influence of body shape index and heart rate variability in athletes as assessed during treadmill exercise” written by Snigdha Sharma and colleagues is a new concept and hopefully will make a mark in preventive cardiology. This is a study which could have wide ramifications. It is well articulated.
The third article authored by Vijaykumar Reddy and colleagues and titled “Premature coronary artery disease in young Indians: The hormonal triad of insulin, testosterone, vitamin D” from the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Bengaluru, India. This study delineates a hormonal triad in premature coronary artery disease in Indians and is a prospective case–control study. Such studies are always welcome in India where the disease burden is huge.
The fourth contribution “Spontaneous coronary artery dissection presenting as massive brain stroke: Happy landing with percutaneous coronary intervention” is written by Sanjay Kumar Sharma and Rajiv Motiani. This is a case presentation and shows the presence of mind of the operators in an uncommon situation.
The fifth contribution “Coronary neovascularization due to left atrial thrombosis in a patient with mitral and aortic valves stenosis: A forgotten sign” authorized by Ganeshrao Patilba Sapkal and Satyavan Sharma is an impressive case where the authors have demonstrated coronary neovascularization due to left atrial thrombus. There are images, both preoperative and postoperative, which get the point across very scientifically.
I wish the readers the best of science and I do hope we have done reasonably well in 2022. 2023 should be another year.
Happy reading!
